A standard 2kW solar system should be able to produce 7.8 kWh per day on average, and a 10kW system typically produces 39 kWh per day. Based on these production rates, an easy way to estimate the output of a solar panel system is to multiply the capacity of the solar system by a factor of 4. To illustrate, a 2kW solar system will generate around 8 kWh of power daily. It’s important to note that output can vary throughout the year due to seasonal changes in available sunlight.
Tier 1 solar power systems have never been such a worthwhile and affordable investment! If you’ve been thinking about switching to solar energy, there’s no better time than now to consider getting a new solar power system installed in your home or office. With the latest advances in solar technology, you’ll start to see an increasing number of households add battery storage capacity to their solar systems to store excess solar power for use during the night. The prospect of being energy independent has never been more promising!
There’s never been a better time to purchase a new solar power system in Sydney. Solar system prices are continuing to fall, and you stand to save thousands of dollars in financial incentives by switching to solar power. In Sydney, there are two key financial incentives for having solar panels installed on your property:
- Small Scale Technology Certificates– these are rebates to reduce the cost of your new system.
- Feed-in tariff– an agreement that allows you to earn money from your energy provider on the excess solar energy you feed back to the local power grid.
You qualify for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) – formerly known as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) – when you have a Renewable Energy System such as a solar panel system installed.
The number of STCs you’re allowed depends on the size of your solar system and the amount of solar energy it generates. You receive one STC for every megawatt-hour of energy your solar system produces.
For example, a 2kW solar system can generate anywhere between 2.4MW and 2.9 MW per year depending on your location. This power rating is further multiplied by the number of years the system is likely to produce energy (this is typically 15 years for most residential solar systems, though the lifespan of the solar panels themselves is much longer).
System Output | STC’s | Rebate* |
5kW | 80 | $2,880 |
8kW | 125 | $4,500 |
10kW | 150 | $5,400 |
* Based on an STC price of $36. Contact us today for the latest STC price.
Your solar system installer will reduce the price of your system by the value of the STCs you’re eligible to receive. There is no additional paperwork required, and you’ll receive the value of the STCs for your solar system at current market prices.
Throughout the Sydney area, all new grid-connected solar systems are installed with Net Metering. This new metering system records the amount of solar power your system generates that is supplied to your home. Since electricity must be used immediately, any energy that is not consumed by your home is automatically sent back out to the grid. Your energy retailer buys back your excess power and pays you a feed-in tariff that shows up on your energy bill.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal states that a fair and reasonable value for excess solar energy exported back to the grid should fall within the range of 7.7 to 12.9 cents per kilowatt-hour. For instance, if you have a 4kW system and you export all of the power to the grid on a typical Sydney day, you will receive a credit of approximately 16kW/h x 8c = $1.28.
Deciding on an appropriately sized solar system for your home depends on what you want to achieve with your new solar system. While many are focused on making sure their new system pays for itself in as little time as possible, others are more interested in maximizing their savings on their power bill or even reducing their carbon footprint to help the environment.
If you want a positive return on your solar investment as quickly as possible, you’ll want to make sure you choose a solar system that matches your daytime energy consumption.
For example, assuming you save 30 cents per kW, if you install a 5kW solar system that generates 7,118kW/h over the span of a year, you could save $2,135 every year. This translates into a return on your investment in less than 3 years!
On the other hand, if you’re looking for an easy way to minimise your power bill, you simply need to purchase the biggest solar system you can afford that will fit on your roof. Buying the largest appropriate size allows for increases in power usage down the road if you’re thinking about adding a pool, spa, air conditioner or some other large appliance to your home.
If you’re planning on switching to solar power to have a positive impact on the environment, your roof space and your budget are the only things you need to consider! The larger your solar system, the more you’re cutting back on harmful sources of energy like coal and gas while helping to produce clean, green renewable energy.

If you want to install solar system, you're in the right place.
